Indrakaran urges VP to ensure national status to Medram fair; Helicopter from Hyderabad

Telangana Endowments & Housing Minister A Indrakaran Reddy today urged Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu to accord national festival status to Medaram Tribal festival of Sammakka and Sarakka in Telangana and provide funds.

The minister also disclosed that the State government would provide helicopter facility from Hyderabad to transport people who can afford to take darshan of presiding deities at Medaram festival. Along with MPs and officials, the minister called on the Vice-President in Delhi and extended him an invitation to attend the festival to be held from January 31 to February 3.

Speaking to mediapersons later, Indrakaran said the Vice President assured to talk to the concerned officials to offer national festival status to Medaram festival and to visit the mega festival in the State. Elaborate arrangements have been made for the grand tribal festival, he said. The State Government was hopeful of getting national status to the Sammakka Sarakka Jathara, he hoped. The State also allotted Rs 80 crore for Tribal Festival, which was expected to see the turnout of one crore people from various States, he said. Indrakaran Reddy also maintained that national level publicity being conducted for the Medaram Festival will lasted for four days. A special helipad facility will be provided at Medaram for the festival, he added
