Indore: Members of the minority community today held a protest here over the alleged derogatory comments against their religion by a person claiming to be a Hindu Mahasabha working president with the protesters causing damage to a garments showroom and some vehicles.
According to eyewitnesses, the protesters pelted stones at a showroom of ready-made garments on Regal Square and damaged its glass facade. They also smashed some vehicles parked outside the outlet.
The protesters were apparently peeved that the showroom’s owner had not downed shutters in response to a call for a half -day shutdown in the city in protest against the alleged derogatory remarks by one Kamlesh Tiwari.
A police officer, requesting anonymity, said that the showroom’s owner has not filed a complaint yet and, hence, no case has been registered in connection with the alleged damage caused to his shop.
Police had, in view of the rally, stepped up vigil between Madhumilan Square and Regal Square.
Earlier, a delegation of community members handed a memorandum to a district administration official demanding strict action against Tiwari — who claims to be a leader of the right-wing Akhil Bhartiya Hindu Mahasabha (ABHM) — for his alleged objectionable comments.
