New Delhi: A doctor from Indore conducted 196 sterilization operations in one day ignoring the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW).
According to a TOI report, Dr D C Mahadik, a government doctor on 12 December performed surgeries in Punasa, in order to achieve the target saying that “You cannot question the capability of doctors working 24/7 for patients.”
MoHFW issued the guidelines after medical negligence case in Chhattisgarh last year where 13 women lost their life due to botched up sterilisation procedure.
Dr Shailendra Kataria, Block Medical Officer (BMO) confirmed the number of surgeries. “196 patients were operated in Punasa block at three places by the same doctor. The surgeries took place at Mundi, Punasa and Sulgawn, which come under Punasa block.”
