Indoor stadium in Kashmir gets a facelift to promote winter sports

The government of Kashmir is renovating the Sher-e-Kashmir Indoor Stadium (SKIS), to promote winter sports in the valley.

“The renovation work at the stadium will be completed within one or two months, and soon, we will be able to organize winter sports,” said Executive Engineer, Jammu and Kashmir State Sports Council, Mushaq Ahmad.

The basketball and table tennis courts are being renovated and the central hall of the stadium is being specially designed.

Budding players hailed the efforts of the authorities.

“We are happy as the renovation work has been undertaken. The government is slowly and gradually taking steps to provide us with all facilities such as placing tiles. Now, it is looking like a stadium. It earlier used to look like a CRPF camp. The government is also trying to take steps for players and to boost sporting activities,” said a badminton player, Aroosa Jan.

The central heating system of the indoor stadium, which was occupied by the security forces in early 1989, has been restored and made functional by sports council of the state. (ANI)
