Indo-Pak talks only to bridge trust deficit: Krishna

New Delhi, May 19: India today said that the foreign minister-level talks with Pakistan should not be construed as resumption of Composite Dialogue as it was only an exercise to bridge the trust deficit between the two countries.

“If you look at the Thimphu text there is nothing about the dialogue at all — the mandate for the foreign ministers and foreign secretaries is to bridge the trust deficit — that is going to be the main thrust of our discussions,” External Affairs Minister S M Krishna told CNN-IBN.

Krishna said that the central point of his dialogue with his Pakistan counterpart Shah Mahmood Qureshi would be to explore ways to eliminate the distrust between the two countries.

“… that will be the starting point and if we can hit common ground then other substantial issues can be taken up,” he said.
