Indo-Pak relations depend on solution of Kashmir issue

Youths should concentrate on building India afresh only on the foundations of justice so that peace could be ensured in this region. Whenever there was a struggle between truth and power, it was truth which was always successful, however mighty the power may be. Supremo of All Party Hurriyath Conference of Kashmir Mr. Syed Ali Shah Geelani expressed these ideas in a meeting organized by Civil Liberties Committee in Hyderabad yesterday. About Kashmir, he said that for the past so many years, the people of Kashmir have been struggling for its freedom. During the past 60 years, six lakh persons have sacrificed their lives during this struggle.

He categorically told that so long as the Kashmir issue is not solved their can’t be good and permanent bilateral relations between India and Pakistan. He told that the people of Kashmir are vexed up with the violation of human rights and inhuman cruelties and police atrocities.

He recalled that Nehru, while sending Indian Army to Kashmir had promised that as soon as the situation in Kashmir becomes normal, Army will be withdrawn but even today there is army in Kashmir. After independence, two Muslim countries Pakistan and Bangladesh were formed but injustice was meted out to minorities in both these countries and also in India. Citing the example of atrocities on minorities, he said that Congress ruled India for 40 years and during this period, 40 thousand communal riots took place in which Muslims were at loss.

Mr. Geelani told that the stand taken by the Kashmiris is based on truth. He told that when the Muslims becomes god-fearing and afraid of the dooms day, this country will become the symbol of peace. He warned the Muslims to protect their culture and their language Urdu so that their civilization could be preserved.

Mr. Geelani told that we have to send the message that we are not communal minded but we believe in God. We don’t worship the country we have faith in Doomsday. Lamenting on the killing of girl children among the Muslim communities, he said that Muslims are not tolerating the existence of the girls. By doing so, they are spoiling their lives in the Hereafter. Dowry system among the Muslims is not good for the community. Commenting on the demolition of Babri Masjid, he said that when it was being demolished, Mr. P.V. Narasimha Rao was not able to open five but when the Muslims agitated, fire was opened. Today, the bomb explosions at Malegaon, Samjhutha Express and Makkah Masjid proved that where is terrorism being nourished. It has now been proved beyond doubt that Hindu fascist former military officers were involved in these blasts. India is giving preference to Defense forces but it is using Defense forces against the Muslims. Mr. Geelani said that one crore 30 lakh Kahsmiris have been divided into two segments. Many families are forced to lead the lives of seclusions.

Prof. Rehana Sultana, Head, Dept of women’s studies, Maulana Azad National Urdu University presided over this seminar. Present on this occasion were Prof. Jagmohan Singh Prof. Syed Abdur Rahman Geelani and Mr. Lateef Mohammed Khan.

Prof. Syed Abdul Rahman Geelani in his address said that India, despite claiming to be secular is exercising step-motherly treatment to the Kashmiris. Commenting on 17% increase in Defense budget of India, he said that this amount could be utilized for development of the country. It seems that by increasing Defense budget India wants to exhibit its self-confidence.

Prof. Geelani told that so long as Kashmir issue is not resolved, Indo-Pak talks will continue to be held but permanent good relations can’t be established between India & Pakistan. He said that there are 7 lakh armymen in Kashmir.

He pointed out that even after keeping army in Kashmir, India didn’t get anything except financial losses. It is not fair to crush the demands of the Kashmiris. He termed it as a legitimate demand. India should accept the demand to end violation of human rights.

Dr. Rehana Sultana in her presidential remarks thanked all the speakers and said that struggle for human rights violations will continue. In the beginning of the seminar, Mr. Lateef Mohammed Khan welcomed the speakers and the audience in his welcome speech.
