Muslims have gone astray from the community feeling and everybody is thinking in terms of his/her own individuality. Due to this, Muslim Community is suffering from the feelings of inferiority complexes and indifference.
This has serious consequences for the future of the Muslims in India. We have to learn a lesson from the tribals who live in forests. Even today, they have the feelings of community and nation. They prefer tribal system to family traditions. The pity is that the Muslims are going astray from the community system. They first confined themselves to family system and its traditions but later they abandoned it also. Now they are falling prey to individual system. It is promoting indifference among the Muslims.
They are not able to understand the difficulties and pains caused to each other. The indifference about Kashmir issue is the result of wrong propaganda about Kashmir. The issue of Kashmir has to be resolved soon. Prof. Syed Abdur Rahman Geelani expressed these ideas the reporter of Siasat met him during his tour of Hyderabad.
He told that the attitude of Govt. is unrealistic. When Govt. of India is tarnishing the image of Kashmir and presenting it before the public which is distancing the people of Kashmir from India. Govt. of India covers up its atrocities under the pretext of Pakistan terrorism. He informed that many persons are missing from Kashmir. In the present scenario, a new terminology has come to be known, that is “Semi widow”. There are many women whose husbands are missing for a long time. They are still waiting for their husbands to return. Giving the present situation of Kashmir, he said that majority of the people of Kashmir want freedom. Very few people want to join Pakistan or India. For resolving Kashmri issue, Professor Gilani emphasized the need to conduct plebiscite in Kashmir. He told that after three generations, a new generation has come up. This generation has been nourished under the shadows of guns and bombs and they are not afraid of anything.
He stressed the need for conducting referendum. If the Govt. does not take any decision on Kashmir issue, it may lead to serious consequences. The younger generation is vexed up with the present situation of Kashmir. Criticizing heavily the media persons, Prof. Geelani told that the story which was written in 2010 depicted the assassination of more than 100 youths with military firing. Despite this, the news channels telecasted only the good reports of the functioning of the Govt. He lamented on the double standards of the media on such inhuman cruelties.
He told that in Manipur, a woman was molested for which women of India protested throughout the country but when two women were raped by militarymen in Kahsmir, no Indian protested. All the human rights activists in India are silent on this issue. Even the Muslim politicians didn’t raise any voice against it. For this kind of escapist tendency of the Muslims the Muslim political and religions leadership is responsible to a larger extent because they have stopped keeping the Muslims abreast of the latest conspiracies and schemes of the opponents.
He told that right from the beginning, the people of Kashmir have been demanding to solve Kashmir by conducting referendum. When a question was put to him by the reporter of Siasat about the development of Kashmir after its independence he told that at the time of granting Independence to India, the Britishers had asked Gandhiji that how he is going to manage India. Gandhiji had then told them to leave us on our own and we would manage it. What we want is freedom of inda. He informed that the natural resources of Kashmir are sufficient for its sustenance.
He further told that India and Pakistan are exploiting the water resources of Kashmirs. If they are utilized by Kashmiris, it guarantees their progress. He said that freedom is the birth right of the Kashmir Govt. of India linked the issue with religion and in this way the human rights agencies were kept away from by an organized conspiracy.
Referring to the judgment of the Supreme Court to hang Afzal Guru, he said that the court itself admitted that there is lack of evidence in this case and the punishment is being given taking into consideration the sentiments of the public. He told that when there is no provision in law for taking such a decision, how can it be correct?
He further told that Kashmiri Pandits are facing a lot of difficulty due to their migration from Kashmir. He clarified that for dislocating the pandits, the Muslims are not responsible, it was the strategy of the then Governor of Kashmir Mr. Jagmohan who forced them to migrate by arranging Govt. buses.
Indian Govt. itself is confessing that injustice has been done to Kashmiris. Referring to the statement given by Mr. P. Chidambaram he said that the Home Minister had said that Kashmir issue is nothing but it is a matter of series of violations of promises made by the Govt. of India.
He stressed the need for Govt. of India to fulfill its promises made to Kashmiris. The people of India. Should also support the problem of Kashmir on humanitarian grounds.
