IndiGo Airlines makes aviation history

Mumbai, January 12: Whoever thought that low cost carriers can’t make huge deals must read this. India’s largest low cost carrier IndiGo has cut a record breaking deal with Airbus for acquiring 180 Airbus aircraft of the 320-neo series.

To be delivered between 2016 and 2025, it is the largest single firm order number for large jets in commercial aviation history, making IndiGo the launch customer for the A320-neo.

The USP of A320-neo is that the carrier jet incorporates new more efficient engines and large wing tip devices called Sharklets delivering significant fuel savings of up to 15 percent, which represents savings of over 400,000 USgal of fuel and up to 3,600 tonnes of CO2 annually per aircraft. In addition, the A320-neo provides a double-digit reduction in NOx emissions and reduced engine noise.

However, the engine selection will be announced by airline later.
