Indians advise to leave Yemen: External Affairs Minister

New Delhi, May 28: In view of the worsening situation in Yemen after the steep escalation in incidents of violence, External Affairs Ministry on Friday issued an advisory to Indian nationals in Yemen to “exit the country” through whatever commercial means available. There are about 11,000 Indians in Yemen.

The advisory said, “Keeping in view the evolving situation and the increase in violent incidents in Yemen, all Indians living in the country are advised to exit the country through whatever commercial means available. Till such time they are able to exit, Indian nationals are also advised not to venture out except under absolutely unavoidable circumstances.”

Death toll in Yemen is worsening as firefights raging across Sanaa are increasing, with more than 70 people killed on Thursday. The Foreign Ministry said that the Embassy of India and Indian Ambassador in Yemen will continue to function in Sanaa and can be contacted for any assistance by Indian nationals till such time they are able to exit the country.
