Indian surgeon to visit Karachi to perform liver transplants

New Delhi: A positive gesture can lessen the rising tensions between India and Pakistan, as an Indian doctor, Dr Subhash Gupta, along with his team is all set to cross the border to perform a series of liver transplants in Karachi this month.

Dr. Gupta will perform three to four surgeries at the Dow University of Health Sciences. “Not only would Dr Gupta perform those complicated surgeries, he would also train Pakistani doctors and make them learn from his experience and expertise in the field of transplant surgery,” the university’s vice chancellor, Prof. Saeed Quraishy said.

“Lack of trained human resources is a basic hurdle preventing us from performing liver transplants locally and a large number of our patients are going to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad and abroad for liver transplants,” Prof Quraishy said as per The Express Tribune.

The 56-year-old Dr. Gupta is currently the chairman of the Liver and Biliary Sciences department at Max Super Speciality Hospital. He had performed the last liver surgery in Pakistan in December last year.
