New Delhi, June 07: Angry over the spate of racial assaults in Australia, hundreds of Indian students on Sunday took out a massive rally in Sydney to protest against the attacks targeting the community.
The rally was organised by the Federation of Indian Students Association, Sydney Chapter, along with the National Union of Students.
The protesters, numbering nearly 1,000, marched from Townhall to High Park in Sydney, shouting anti-racism slogans.According to sources, the students propose to organise another rally in Brisbane as well. However, prominent Indian community leaders in Sydney had earlier said the students were engaging themselves in “entirely futile” exercise as their concerns had already been raised with the Australian authorities, who were trying to address them.On Sunday last as well, thousands of Indian students chanting ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ had rallied here demanding justice for victims of recent attacks, including 25-year-old Shravan Kumar who was seriously injured after being stabbed with a screwdriver by a group of teenagers who also assaulted his three Indian friends.
