An Indian social club in Abu Dhabi has celebrated its 46th anniversary on Thursday, with the shining gem in its anniversary celebrations being the 35 million-dirham five-storey building, which is considered as the biggest Indian recreational club in the Middle East.
One of the oldest social clubs in the capital city of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the Indian Social and Cultural Centre (ISC) celebrated the anniversary at a ceremony with about 2,600 members of the centre and their families and friends, Gulf News reports. According to the report, as a part of the ceremony, M.K Lokesh, Indian Ambassador to the UAE, administered the oath of office to about 12 members of the new managing committee of the centre and entertainment was provided through a musical programme performed by famous South Indian playback singer Rimy Tomy and her team.
The Indian Ambassador also unveiled at the ceremony the brochure of ‘India Festival season-4’ which will showcase India’s diverse cultural and culinary delights, apart from stalls selling different products. According to the honorary president of the centre Thomas John, the new managing committee of the centre has announced several projects and programmes for this year, including a kindergarten school for the Indian community for the academic year 2014-2015. John further said that apart from organising the socio-cultural events, the centre, started in 1967, is also extending help to the needy in the community. (ANI)
