Indian-origin woman dies in UK road mishap

London, January 07: Tributes have been paid to an Indian-origin grandmother who died after she was hit by a car while crossing a road in the east Midlands city of Leicester.

Kausturben Modha, 88, reportedly died instantly when she was struck on a pedestrian crossing just a few yards from her home. She was returning home after spending the afternoon at her son Mukesh’s sweet shop.

Mukesh, said: “She was a great mother when I was young and even at the age of nearly 89 she was still full of energy.

She raised five sons and a daughter and she was an amazing woman. She never liked to sit down ? she would always be ironing or doing something”.

Kasturben was born in India in 1922 and married Jivanlal, before moving to Tanzania.

Mukesh moved to Leicester from Africa in 1982, and opened his shop three years later.
