Mumbai: A talented 17-year-old Indian origin singer-songwriter is topping BBC Radio’s Pop Chart with her single debut song ‘No Need’ along with the famous hit songs of Ed Sheeran, Miley Cyrus.
Rika also was known as Chandrika Darbari is a half Indian, half Serbian born musician from Northwest London was among the top ten pop charts on BBC radio.
The song No Need delivers a clear message of not judging people on their looks. The debut became hit after it was released on 21 September 21 quickly climbing the top pop charts in the two countries garnering nearly 840,000 views on Youtube along with being featured in BBC Asia’s Artist of the Week list.
The song is a narration of her own experience of being bullied in the school.
Speaking to TOI, Rika said, “I was bullied a lot in school — not because I was Asian but because I had bad acne and was really skinny,” “Yet, I wanted everyone to connect to the song. It is diverse and can also be about racism, divorced parents or just straight-up bullying. It’s just saying that we should try to improve ourselves instead of bringing someone else down.”
Rika is born to Indian father and a Serbian mother, has also performed the song ‘For peace in Syria’ along with her brother which was Shot in Delhi garnered over 900,000 views on YouTube.
