Indian origin Punjabi woman selected as Canada’s Supreme Court Judge

Jalandhar: The migrated Punjabi’s in Canada where more than happy after one of there community member was elected as Supreme Court’s Judge. The Canadian Parliament currently has 19 Punjabi members of Indian origin in its administration.

Palbinder Kaur Shergil becomes the first Sikh woman to be selected as Supreme Court Judge of Canada. Palbinder who hails from Rurkhan Kalan village moved to Canada when she was four years old in the mid 70’s. She was married in Jagatpur village of Nawanshar district.

The Sarpanch of Jagatpur village expressed they want Palbinder to visit the village once. He will also be honouring her family staying in the village. He said, “She had brought the name of our village on the world map and we are going to honour her extended family members here tomorrow.”

Her husband Amritpal Singh Shergill’s second cousin also expressed their happiness over her selection and said they were proud of her.

Palbinder’s village people were too happy with her success. Says her family member Gurbinder Singh Sandhu of Rurka Kalan that “We have distributed sweets in the village as we are proud of her”.
Palbinder is known as human rights lawyer and is currently living in Surrey with her husband and their three children, reported Indian Express.
