New Delhi: Pakistani authorities on Monday released Indian national Hamid Nehal Ansari, who spent three years in a jail in Pakistan after being arrested in 2012. His jail term ended on December 15. He will be repatriated to India. A top court in Pakistan has given one month’s time to the government to complete the formalities.
Three years ago, on December 15, 2015, 33-year-old Hamid Nehal Ansari was sentenced by a military court to 3 years’ imprisonment for possessing a fake Pakistani identity card. He was taken into custody by intelligence officials after he had entered Pakistan from Afghanistan on November 12, 2012, with a fake identity card.
According to ToI, the identity card was sent to him by his Facebook friend from Karak, a town in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province.
Expressing happiness over Ansari’s release, the ministry of external affairs stated that it is a matter of great relief. The ministry also urged Pakistan to also end the misery of the other Indian nationals and fishermen languishing in jails.
