Worried over the rise in the number of pron clips circulating on the internet, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) told the Supreme Court (SC) on Thursday that men are to blame for the rise in pornography on the web.
“It is proving difficult to stop violent cyber pornography in India because of India’s domineering male population’s high demand of such content”, claims CBI.
Stating this on an affidavit in the SC, CBI said that the Indian men have an “insatiable lust and penchant for salacious material, including violence against women.” CBI further said that because of India’s “huge market potential” it is vulnerable to frequent cyber-attacks by cross-border anti-national elements.
The affidavit came in response to a PIL filed by an NGO Prajwala which drew the attention of the court to some disturbing sexual violence videos where perpetrators showed no regret or fear of the law while filming the rape of innocent girls and women.
Commenting on how it is difficult for the investigation agency to detect violent cyber pornography easily, CBI told the Supreme Court that due to huge demand for such content, the content providers move from one blocked website to another.
In order to arrest the trend and punish perpetrators of such crimes, which is a national crimes, for the concerned safety of young women and children, the CBI urges on SC, to make it the only pan-India agency that can investigate cybersex offences and has the authority to persecute offenders.
CBI officers with specialized training in cyber crime, should be posted with Google, YouTube, Facebook, WhatsApp, Hike, Bing (Microsoft), Yahoo and other popular sites,” it told the SC.
