New Delhi: The Indian food and strong structure of Indira Gandhi Stadium made the participants at the third Indo-Africa Forum Summit (IAFS) oblivious of tremor that struck Delhi, a senior Indian official said on Monday.
Answering query from a visiting journalist from Africa about the tremor, IAFS’ chief coordinator Syed Akbaruddin said here that the tremors would have been felt outside the venue.
“Inside the summit venue, we were happily having lunch. Indian food made it oblivious. None felt the tremor,” he said.
Akbaruddin said that strucuture of stadiums was normally stronger than other buildings
The tremor came on the first day of the four day summit which is expected to be attended by over 40 head of state and head of governments from 54 African countries. The main summit will take place on October 29.
Officials from 54 African countries and India met on Monday on the first day of the summit.
An earthquake measuring 7.5 on the Richter Scale and with its epicentre in Afghanistan shook large parts of north India at around 2.40 p.m.
