Indian envoy meets new Nepal Army chief

Kathmandu: Indian Ambassador to Nepal, Manjeev Singh Puri, on Monday made a courtesy call on newly appointed Nepal Army chief General Purna Chandra Thapa.

The meeting happened at the Army Headquarter where the two discussed bilateral relations, as per a release from the Nepal Army.

“Chief of Army Staff General Purna Chandra Thapa was paid a courtesy call by the Indian Ambassador for Indian Mission in Nepal Manjeev Singh Puri. During the meeting Chief of Army Staff and Indian Ambassador held discussions over the matters of mutual interest and bilateral relations,” the statement added.

The Army chief took over the post formally on Sunday with the oath-taking ceremony held in the President’s Office, Sheetal Niwas. The Cabinet of Nepal had recommended General Thapa to the post on August 9.

General Thapa, who succeeded Rajendra Chhetri as 43rd Army Chief, had joined the Nepal Army in 1979.
