New Delhi, October 17: An Indian delegation led by Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar today left for Geneva to take part in the 121st Assembly of the Inter Parliamentary Union to be held there from October 19.
On top of the agenda is the issue of food security and global cooperation and shared responsibiliity to fight organised crime like drugs trafficking, illegal arms sale, human trafficking and cross-border terrorism.
Other subjects on which discussion would be held in the Assembly include HIV/AIDS-prevention, treatment and cure; Our world at War: Challenges for International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights and the Universal Periodic Review, role of parliaments in developing cooperation with a view to achieve millennium development goals and youth participation in the democratic process.
Besdies, the Assembly will also hold discussions on the programme budget 2010-11 of IPU and collaboration between United Nations and IPU apart from other committee meetings of women parliamentarians.
The delegation comprises Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Rahman Khan and MPs Kavuru Sambasiva Rao, Ramdas Agarwal, Sansuma Khunggur Bwiswmuthiary, Yashodhara Raje Scindia and Jaya Prada, along with Lok Sabha Secretary General PDT Achary and Secretary Rajya Sabha Dr VK Agnihotri, the Lok Sabha Secretariat said here today.
