Indian bride files a case against her husband who demanded more dowry even after getting $100,000

An Indian Sikh woman lodged a complaint of dowry related violence against her husband in Victoria. She was assaulted by her husband.

According to the news published in Daily Mail, the Royal Commission into Family Violence has recommended the Victorian government include dowry-related abuse as a form of family violence, in particular economic abuse, within 12 months.

The bride’s family had spent $100,000 on her wedding and gave gifts as a ‘dowry’ which is a common practice in Australia.

The woman was married to her husband for three years, during which he continued to demand more money and turned increasingly violent when his demands were not fulfilled.

She registered a dowry-related abuse case since it is easier to get justice in Australia.
