Indian and Belgian firms sign 10 business agreements

New Delhi, March 24: Indian and Belgian companies on day singed 10 business agreements, including GAIL India’s appointment of Tractebel Engineering as project management consultant for laying 800 km pipeline from Haldia (West Bengal) to Jagdishpur (Uttar Pradesh).

Tractebel provides consultancy and engineering services to infrastructure companies in sectors like power, nuclear energy and gas, a Belgium government statement said.

The firm will “hold total and single point of responsibility from design to commissioning… for laying of 800 km of 36 inch diameter pipeline from Haldia to Jagdishpur ” it added.

The agreements between companies from the two countries covers sectors like logistics and infrastructure, renewable energy, transport and engineering.

The statement did not provide the value of the contracts signed. The agreements have been signed in the framework of 340 strong Belgian economic mission to India and is presided over by Prince Philippe of Belgium.

In the transport sector, two Belgian firms — Eurostation and Immo Star — singed a partnership MoU with RITES for setting up railway projects in India and abroad.

Besides, Sarens Group has signed an agreement with Indian engineering and construction major L&T for providing heavy cranes for Mangalore refinery project.

In the ports sector, Dredging International, Kakinada Seaports Ltd and International Seaports Dredging Ltd signed an MoU for increasing the dredging depth at the Kakinanada Deep Water Port, one of India’s busiest ports, to 13.5 meters as well as to reclaim area.

The statement said that another port agreement between Antwerp and Port of Mumbai is scheduled to be signed in New Delhi in the presence of Shipping Minister GK Vasan, but did not provide any detail.

Ports apart, Belgium’s leading manufacturer of sealants, adhesives and other chemicals, Soudal has set up a 50:50 JV with India’s McCoy Silicones Ltd to produce and distribute products in the SAARC region under a dual brand strategy.

The agreements signed also included a dealership pact between ZingaMetall and John Galt ZINGA Technologies and Vestas Hose Division.
