Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar on Thursday assured that New Delhi would continue to support Nepal in the wake of the devastating earthquake and said that all assistance would be given as per Kathmandu’s requirements.
When asked whether India would scale down the air operations in the quake ravaged country as the roads were now open, Parrikar said that relief is being provided by the Indian Air Force (IAF) as per Nepal’s request and requirement.
“Whatever is their requirement, we are providing (help) according to that. You cannot jump on someone and help him. So, we are acting upon their request,” said Parrikar.
“It is the responsibility of the IAF to meet Nepal’s request and their requirement. They are in touch with the Ministry of External Affairs,” he added.
Parrikar further said that the focus of the operation was currently on providing relief and support.
Around 6,100 deaths have been reported so far following the devastating earthquake in Nepal. Over 11,000 people have been injured. (ANI)
