India with UN in fighting terror

Geneva, May 12: Terrorism has been described variously as both a tactic and strategy; a crime and a holy duty obviously, a lot depends on whose point of view is being represented.

It is the systematic use of terror.It has spread in the world like a plague and India being no exception to it.After the 9/11 terror attck on US the United Nation sprang into action and a anti terrorism commity was set up.India has renewed its call to the community of nations saying that terrorism poses a serious threat to all societies and stressed the need to eradicate it through an all-out effort.

Chief representative to the UN, Hardeep Singh Puri said that New Delhi was aware of the political nexus between clandestine nuclear proliferation and terrorism, and cautioned the world body against complacency about the possibility of such weapons falling into the hands of non-state actors.

The Indian envoy spoke after the heads of three panels briefed the UN Security Council on their progress over greater cooperation on anti-terrorism steps.

”To effectively combat the scourge of terror, it must be resolutely opposed, resisted and overcome through undiluted commitment and effort by the international community,” he said.

”International solidarity and shared determination are absolutely imperative to combat this scourge effectively.” The three committees were established following three the US Security Council resolutions and the heads of those panels narrated their cooperative efforts to the powerful 15-member UN body.

Mr Puri said, ”We support the anti-terror mechanism established by the United Nations resolutions 1267, 1373 and 1540 and India is fully geared to implementing the obligations under these resolutions.”
