Ipoh (Malaysia): The Indian men’s hockey team produced a remarkable performance as they booked their place in the finals of the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup after thrashing hosts Malaysia 6-1 in Ipoh on Friday.
India remained dominated throughout the match, with Nikkin Thimmaiah and Harjeet Singh scoring a goal each within a gap of four minutes in the first quarter.
In the 25th minute, Ramandeep Singh struck third goal for India through a penalty corner followed by Danish Mujtaba’s goal just two minutes later.
Ramandeep netted his second goal for India in the 39th minute before Talwinder Singh sneaked a shot away to take the visitors to an even wider lead.
Malaysia displayed some fight back in the final quarter, but that was not enough to stop India from reaching the finals of the tournament.
With the win, India have now set up final showdown against unbeaten Australia on Saturday.
