India replaces Japan in number of FDI projects from Asia

Mumbai, June 18: India has replaced Japan in talking up the largest FDI projects from Asia in the United Kingdom last year.

According to statistics revealed by the UK Inward Invest, India had in all 108 FDI projects in the UK last year, up by 44 per cent over the previous year.

The Country also leapt forward from seventh to second spot as the source of overall investments in the UK after the United States.

Indian projects created 4,139 new jobs in the UK, 30 per cent more than the next highest job creator.

Defying the world economic downturn, the UK has maintained its position as the number one destination for foreign investors in Europe, and second in the world.

Over the last financial year (2008-09), foreign direct investment (FDI) in the UK has risen by 11 per cent with 1,744 investment projects from 53 countries deciding to locate or expand in the UK.

Every day the UK attracts nearly 5 FDI projects. Every week 673 jobs are created.
