India not serious to hold meaningful talks: Gilani

New Delhi, January 17: The veteran Kashmiri Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani has said that India is not serious to hold talks for settling the Kashmir dispute.

Syed Ali Gilani in a meeting at his residence in New Delhi with the leader of Lok Janshakti Party, Sanjey Saraf, said that he was not against the dialogue process but the talks should be meaningful and result-oriented. He maintained that all claims of New Delhi about serious negotiations in the past proved to be a hoax. The veteran leader pointed out that his forum had put forth some suggestions to make the atmosphere conducive for the resolution of the dispute but unfortunately India was yet to consider those proposals.

On the other hand, normal life remained crippled in occupied Kashmir due to heavy snowfall that resulted in the closure of Srinagar-Jammu highway, the only surface link of the Kashmir Valley to rest of the world, causing shortage of essentials particularly LPG. No flights could operate from Srinagar airport during the past two days. One person was injured after being struck by an avalanche in Uri area of Baramulla, today. The cross-LoC trade and the weekly bus service between Srinagar and Muzaffarabad were also suspended due to the heavy snowfall.

In Islamabad, the APHC-AJK chapter in a meeting with its Convenor, Mahmood Ahmed Saghar, in chair expressed serious concern over gross human rights violations by Indian troops in occupied Kashmir.
