New Delhi, August 13: Concerned over the growing problem of fake currency note circulation, India and Nepal on Wednesday decided to soon chalk out a joint strategy to deal with the menace.
Foreign Minister of Nepal Sujata Koirala today met Union Home Minister P Chidambaram to discuss various issues including circulation of fake currency.
Intelligence inputs suggest that the porous 1,751-km Indo-Nepal border is one of main routes for bringing counterfeit currency to India.
“Nepal and India share a lot of common interests. We are friendly countries. We have an open border and we have spoken about security and how we can mutually work for proper security on the border,” Koirala told reporters after the meeting.
Asked about fake currency problem, she said, “Of course it is a concern for everybody. Nepal wants to control it on its side of the border while India wants to do the same this side. We will have a meeting on the issue (to chalk out a strategy to deal with the menace).”
