India is the headquarter for pharmaceutical fraud

India has become the centre pharmaceutical fraud. Many irresponsible western pharmaceutical companies have started using “Human Guneapigs” in India. They are targeting the poor rural population of India for performing experiments of their new pharmaceutical products. It may be mentioned that in America, rats are used for experimentations.

Taking a serious note of this illegal activity, Supreme Court of India issued direction to Ministry of Health and Family Welfare of Govt. of India to justify the permission given for conducting experiments on 162 drugs in India. On account of lack of regulatory protocols, Indian is becoming the target of the nexus of international pharmaceutical companies. Major pharmaceutical companies have been successful in obtaining permissions from Govt. of India for conducting such tests on the rural population of India.

Many Human Rights Group filed a petition in Supreme Court to issue direction to the officials of health ministry to stop this practice. After conducting special hearing, Supreme Court issued these orders. The coordinator of Health Right Forum, Ms. Amulyanidhi told that new chemical entities are being tried out on human beings without proper protocol. The pharmaceutical companies are exploiting the poor people of India. The website of the organization has depicted that such experiments are causing a great danger to the health of the people. It is evidenced by such experiments in which more than 500 Indians died during 2010-2012. There is an apprehension that more people would die in the near future. These multinational Drug companies are targeting the poor people for their monetary benefits. Mr. Sachin of Chemistry World writes that the experiments of NCE’s have created a new conflict in India since a large number of deaths have occurred due to these experiments. Ministry of Health reported 1542 deaths during 2010-2012. Mr. C.M. Gulati, Editor of Indian Medical Specialties monthly reported that with the experimentation of new drugs, India is not going to gain anything. On the other hand, it will benefit multinational pharmaceutical companies. Mr. Ch. Srinivas of Low Cost Standard Therapeutics said that in India , permission has been given for conducting experiments only in phase II and phase III. He admitted that the present regulatory frame work is full of many defects due to which the bankrupt pharmaceutical companies are getting an opportunity to misuse this system.
