Kabul [Afghanistan]: India has reaffirmed support to Afghanistan and said it is committed to restore Kabul’s role as the land bridge of the region by working with the neighbouring countries.
The remarks were made by Indian envoy to the United Nations, Syed Akbaruddin, during a meeting of the United Nations on Afghanistan.
Resolution supporting Afghanistan’s efforts was adopted by the UN General Assembly as the speakers pledged to help the conflict-affected nation achieve untapped potential, reports Khaama Press.
Expressing fear at the increase of war and increase in casualties suffered by the Afghan National Defence and Security Forces in Afghanistan, Akbaruddin said that as the draft resolution promoted regional cooperation, India was committed to restore Afghanistan’s role as the land bridge of the region by working with the neighbouring countries.
Asserting that the United Nations had to do more to send the right message when combating terrorism, he said, “Inconsistent implementation of sanctions on some terrorist outfits eats away at the United Nations authority.”
Akbaruddin added that the Security Council and its organs could become marginalized if they do not become a part of a cohesive response to global terrorism from the most fundamental security priorities of Member States, whose societies were being torn apart by terrorism. (ANI)
