India called off meeting on flimsy grounds: Pak FM

New York: Pakistan Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Saturday begrudgingly accused India of cancelling the meeting between the foreign ministers of the two countries on flimsy ground.

Speaking at 73rd United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session, Qureshi said, “The meeting between India and Pakistan could have been a good opportunity to have a dialogue on various issues. But due to their attitude, Indian government lost this opportunity for the third time,” he said.

The Pakistan Foreign Minister further said that India prefers politics over peace. “India prefers politics over peace. Pakistan desires a relationship with India based on mutual respect; seeks resolution of disputes through dialogue. Pakistan is keen to pursue partnerships for peace and prosperity in our immediate neighbourhood and beyond,” Qureshi added.

Earlier this month, India pulled out of the proposed meeting between External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Qureshi, hours after two Special Police Officers and one policeman in Jammu and Kashmir were kidnapped and brutally killed by the terrorists.

The foreign ministers of India and Pakistan were scheduled to meet on the sidelines of the UNGA.
