New Delhi, April 10: India and Bulgaria, a member of the European Union, have decided to increase the bilateral trade and investments in the sectors such as textiles,
pharmaceuticals, energy, agriculture and IT.
In the meeting of India-Bulgaria Joint Commission for Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation, Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jyotiraditya Scindia said that the rapid growth of the Indian economy and the increased potential of Bulgaria hold great opportunities to further expand the trade and economic ties between the countries.
The Commission which met after a gap of six years also identified areas where bilateral cooperation could yield concrete results, an official statement said here.
“The Joint Commission discussed cooperation to enhance bilateral trade and investments, food, textiles, leather, pharmaceuticals, science and technology, energy especially new and renewable energy, engineering goods and tourism, agriculture and Information Technology,” it said.
In the two-day meeting which was held at Sofia, a protocol identifying areas of cooperation was signed by Scindia and Traycho Traykov, Minister of Economy, Energy and Tourism of Bulgaria.
Scindia also invited the Bulgarian expertise in farming and post-harvest processing to increase value additions in the food sector.
The bilateral trade between the countries was USD 135 million in 2009-10.
