Hyderabad, October 24: “India being a land of a billion people is a land of opportunity. And the healthcare sector is going to throw up about 15 million jobs,’’ Apollo Hospital enterprises executive director Shobana Kamineni said in her keynote address at the annual convocation of the Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI) Centre for Healthcare Management.
She presented certificates to 29 students of the third batch of post-graduate diploma in hospital management (PGDHM) at the convocation on the college premises here today.
“Arogyasri has thrown up a big challenge of catering to about 4 crore people resulting in coming up of more and more private hospitals.
At the moment India needs 1.5 million doctors and 3 million nurses which hints at the vast investment potential in medical education,’’ Shobana said.
Earlier, speaking on the occasion, ASCI court of governor chairman M Narasimham, who presided over the programme, opined that the market and hospitals started recognising value of the programme and were keen to absorb healthcare professionals.
‘’In olden days people used to go to developed countries for treatment but now traffic is in the other direction. Our professional expertise in medicine and surgery is second to none,’’ he asserted.
ASCI director general SK Rao observed that India was going to become a global hub for healthcare sector.
Director, Centre for Healthcare Management Prof. Nirmala Apsingirkar proposed a vote of thanks. Fortis Healthcare Limited’s president Daljit Singh was the chief guest at the alumni meet held earlier in the day.
Three students–Dr Sridevi Dornala, Dr. Yasha Pandit and Abhirami E were presented medals for academic excellence on the occasion.
