India beat Sri Lanka by eight wickets

Mirpur, January 10: India advanced into the finals of tri-nation cricket tournament here today after thrashing Sri Lanka by eight wickets at Shere Bangla National Stadium.

Chasing a target of 214 runs, India defeated mighty Sri Lankans comprehensively to enter the final of tri-series.

Electing to bat first, Sri Lankan openers’ disappointed skipper Sangakkara as Upul Tharanga returned to pavilion on a duck. He was caught by Dinesh Karthik at first slip off young pacer Sudeep Tyagi.

However, Tilakratne Dilshan showed good form with the bat despite being out of game for a week. He scored 33 off 17 deliveries when Gambhir took superb catch at gully.

Skipper Sangakkara was the top scorer for the side with 68 runs. Spinner Randiv also scored his maiden fifty today.

Indian opener Dinesh Karthik and Gautam Gambhir provided good start to their side. However, Karthik missed his fifty by two runs. Gautam Gambhir smashed another ODI fifty to guide the side towards victory. He scored 71 runs. Virat Kohli once again proved his talent and scored unbeaten 71 runs.

India and Sri Lanka will meet in the final on Wednesday.
