India and Bangladesh have decided to work together for better border management.
The Border Security Force (BSF) and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) guard the 4,096-km long border between the two sides. They regularly hold meetings to tackle the security challenges.
A 20-member Indian delegation led by BSF Director General Devendra Kumar Pathak was in Dhaka recently to discuss border related issues.
Border Guard Bangladesh chief Major General Aziz Ahmed led the 23-member Bangladesh delegation.
They discussed various issues relating to border security, smuggling, infiltration and curbing of trans-border crimes during the four-day long conference.
“No stone will be left unturned in action against floating Indian insurgent groups as it is the consistent policy of Bangladesh that its soil shall not be allowed to be used by any entity or element hostile to any country,” said Major General Aziz Ahmed.
Both India and Bangladesh regularly conducts programmes to develop better relations between the security forces along the border.
As a part of confidence-building measure between the two security forces, a friendly football match was recently played between the 89th battalion of BSF and 4th battalion of BGB in border town of Belonia in Tripura district.
Thousands of locals gathered at the ground to witness the match and cheered both the teams. The BSF men won the match.
“We have a cordial and very helpful attitude towards each other as both the forces are guarding their respective country borders,” said BSF DIG B.S. Tolia.
Nikhil Chandra Lodh, a local, said the people have forgotten the earlier incidents and differences.
“The brotherly relation is being reflected through this match,” he added.
India and Bangladesh have been working together to reduce crimes and illegal activities along the border.
Special emphasis is also being given to develop cross-border trade, especially via the northeastern region that shares a 1,880-km-long border with Bangladesh. (ANI)
