India, Bangladesh discuss border management issues

India and Bangladesh on Friday discussed issues pertaining to improved border management between the two nations at the Tripura state guest house here.

The 30-member Bangladeshi delegation included district commissioner cum magistrates (DCMs) and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) officials, while India was represented by the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Superintendents of Police of five districts of Tripura along the border attended the two-day India- Bangladesh Joint Border Conference.

” India’s main issues are regarding the presence of extremists in jungles along the borders and of the issue of cross border crimes. The meet was very cordial and fruitful,” Dhalai district DCM Dr Milan Ramtek said.

“I believe that such meetings should take place more frequently and it helps in building cooperation and friendship between the two countries,” added Bangladesh’s Rangamati district DCM Shamsul Arefin.

Tripura is surrounded by Bangladesh from three sides and shares an 857 kilometre border with the People’s Republic. (ANI)
