Hyderabad: Maulana Azad National Urdu University celebrated the Independence Day today with pomp and gaiety by hoisting the national tricolour in Campus.
Prof. Ayub Khan, Pro Vice-Chancellor, addressing the gathering after unfurling the tricolour said that People of every religion participated in the Freedom struggle and have sacrificed their lives and wealth for the sake of freedom. We should respect all religions, caste and languages, he added.
After flag hoisting ceremony, Prof Ayub Khan along with Dr. M A Sikandar, Registrar, University staff and students took part in Pad Yatra to commemorate 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, organized by NSS Unit.
Later cultural programme was organized by Centre for Urdu Culture Studies at DDE auditorium. Students presented Patriotic songs in chorus — Saare Jahan se achcha Hindustan hamara; Vijayi Vishwa Tiranga, Sarfaroshi ki Tamanna, Urooj-e-Kamyaabi par kabhi Hindustan hoga — to mark the occasion. Prof. Ayub Khan also distributed certificates among students.
Mr. Anis Azami, Chief Consultant, CUCS proposed vote of thanks. Dr. Mohd. Muzaffar Hussain, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Education & Training and Dr. Karan Singh Utwal, Head, Dept. of Hindi supervised the presentation.
