Baramulla, July 01: An indefinite curfew continued in this and Sopore town of north Kashmir for the third day today as fresh violence erupted, in which a youth was killed and a woman was injured critically.
With this, a total of four youth were killed in security force and police firing.
Official sources said Aamir Rashid, who was injured in security force firing on June 28 evening, died in Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKMIS) at Soura this morning.
As the news of his death reached, people defied the curfew restrictions and raised pro freedom and anti-government slogans.
However, after Rashid was laid to rest, thousands of people again took to the streets and clashed with security forces, who burst teargas shells and resorted to lathicharge.
A woman was hit by teargas shells in the head and rushed to Srinagar in a critical condition.
Yesterday, a youth and on June 28 two people were killed in security force firing on demonstrators.
The Official sources said the trouble started on June 28 night, when hundreds of people, mostly youth, took to the streets, raising pro-freedom and anti- government slogans after a woman alleged that she was abused by police personnel posted in a police station at Baramulla, where she had gone, seeking release of her husband.
She alleged the police personnel molested her in the police station when she appealed to them to release her husband.
However, without verifying the facts, a mob attacked the police station with stones, forcing security personnel to fire in the air and also burst teargas shells. However the police has denied all these allegations.
They said the police had taken the woman’s husband into custody, against his brother-in-law Mehraj ud-din Marazi who had kidnapped a girl recently.
The family members of the girl had lodged am for against Marazi in the police station, the police added .
