Increase in Gun Culture worries city police

Hyderabad, May 26: Hyderabad City Police had decided to control the “Gun-Culture” in the city. Police commissioner, A. K. Khan told the news men in a Press Conference that scrutiny of weapons and their licenses is being done on a mass seale.

There are 4,890 licenses and 6167 weapons in the city. 2591 licenses have been scrutinisized and eases of negligence and misuse have been found out. There are cases when licenses have given their weapons to others for use.

Action will be taken against defaulters, if need be. Notices will be issued to 91 persons for the cancellation of their licenses of weapons. He told the news men that in order to curb the unlawful and criminal activities more rowdysheeters would be sent outside the city.

He said that there are 1060 rowdysheeters in the city. City Police is reviewing the criminal record of part three years and 680 persons have been identified as anti social elements. City Police has also identified 11 gangs for whom counseling is being arranged.

He pointed out that against one license, a person cannot possess two or more weapons. Some persons are getting more licenses showing their other addresses in Ranga Reddy & Cyberabad. The licenses of the ex-service men are also being checked. Additional Commissioner Mr. Ramesh Bhagwat and Joint commissioner Ms. Anuradha were also present.
