Incentives for low-budget movies: Minister

Hyderabad, March 29: Cinematography Minister J Geetha Reddy today said the Government would solve problems being faced by producers and directors of low-budget films.

Directors Tripuraneni Varaprasad, Bhimaneni Srinivas Rao, Siva Nageswara Rao, B Jaya, C Devi Prasad and others called on Geetha Reddy at the Secretariat today. They urged the minister to see to it that low-budget movies were screened for 24 weeks a year in every cinema.

They also asked the minister to permit the screening of such films, which are released with fewer than 50 prints, on a percentage rather than the rent basis at present.

Geetha Reddy assured them that government would take all steps to protect the industry on the lines of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.

She said she would take a positive decision at the meeting on small-budget movies to be held soon.
