In pics: Kashmir receives heavy snowfall, normal life disrupted

Srinagar: Heavy snowfall crippled normal life in Srinagar and other parts of the valley after Kashmir receives moderate to heavy snowfall for the third running day on Tuesday.

Acording to Director Meteorology, Sonam Lotus, the weather will continue to remain wet till 06-January across Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh and the weather conditions will start improving after January 6, afternoon.

The Srinagar-Jammu National Highway continues to remain affected due to the heavy snowfall at Jawahar Tunnel. Scores of the vehicles remain stranded on the highway, while air traffic to and from Srinagar also remained affected.

Due to heavy snowfall, Srinagar roads also witnessed very less traffic movement while as most of the shops and business establishments remain closed.

In view of the current weather conditions and less visibility due to heavy snowfall, Srinagar administration has issued an urgent appeal to the public to avoid using private cars, so that snow-clearance operations run without hindrances.

Meanwhile, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, P K Pole has issued strict guidelines to concerned departments in order to check black marketing of essential items and also ordered petrol pump owners to provide limited fuel to the commuters in view of the blockage of Srinagar-Jammu Highway.
