The scheduled tour of Macherla in Guntur district by Telugu Desam party president Nara Chandrababu Naidu on Monday was postponed.
However, Chandrababu Naidu held a meeting with Kapu leaders of Guntur district here this morning. The TDP chief reportedly discussed about the disgruntled leader Ummareddy Venkateshwarlu. During the meeting, the Guntur district party leaders pleaded with Naidu to give more importance to the Kapu leaders, for which he reportedly agreed.
The district party leaders reportedly urged the party supremo to earmark at least two Assembly and one Council seat to the Kapus during the next general elections. Responding to their plea, Naidu said that the party would continue to give more importance to Kapus. He also disagreed with them that there was no importance to the Kapus in the party. The district TDP leaders told Naidu that Ummareddy would continue to remain in the party and there was no question of the dissident leader quitting the party.
Meanwhile, it is learnt that the TDP president would tour Macherla on May 8 and Prathipadu on the next day for the electioneering. Naidu had returned home on Sunday morning after conducting hectic by-poll campaigning in Tirupati on Saturday. (NSS)
