Hyderabad, February 14: Asserting the importance of sports and games for students, senior IPS officer Rajiv Trivedi, himself an athlete, called upon all school managements to promote sports along with academics while providing more time in the student’s regular time-table for drill session for a particular purpose of learning sports and games.
Rajiv Trivedi was the chief guest at the annual Sports Day meet-2011 at the Jubilee Hills Public School premises on the occasion of the school silver jubilee celebrations, which was held on February 12.
Speaking on the occasion, Rajiv Trivedi, presently Additional DGP, AP Police Academy, said that every student should participate in various games and sports to navigate well in their respective careers. “Indulging in sports activity is required for overall well being and the building of a healthy body. Sport meets would help students in keeping fresh their minds,” he said.
He said that sports and games are the best place for inculcating team spirit and participation is more important than winning or losing. He said that the school is a perfect integration of academics and sports. He said that sports cannot be in isolated from academics and this meet would be a stepping stone for students to excel in sports as well.
Later, Rajiv Trivedi received the Guard of Honour from the various contingents of students of the school.
In the inaugural address, Varalakshmi, JHPS Principal said that the JHPS students took part in many external competitions and won number prizes. This year in Athletes, the JHPS students won 36 gold medals, 18 silver and 20 bronze medals and many students selected for the Inter district and the state team. The JHPS students are doing extremely well in other sports like Football, Throw ball, Cricket, Archery, chess, Karate and skating.
Later, the sports started in band display, Pragathi Patham-Dance, train drill, race for LKG UKG students, hoops drill display, recreational race, passing the ball race, zig-zag relay race, 200 meters run for girls, karate display and others. Lagadapati Sridhar, Vice Chairman LANCO Group, Murali Mukund, Chairman , JHPS School Management Committee among those were present.
