Imphal: Protestors conduct torch rally, demand invocation of ILP

Imphal , July 13: Demanding the revoking of the controversial Manipur Regulation of Visitors, Tenants and Migrant Workers Bill 2015, several Manipuri women took out a torch rally in different parts of the Imphal yesterday.

Apart from the torch rallies, several youths came out on the street and burnt fires on the roads and shouted slogans to implement the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system in the state.

The Joint Committee Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) claims that the implementation of the ILP in the state would help safeguard the indigenous people of Manipur from those who enter the country illegally from Bangladesh, Myanmar or Nepal.

For this, the JCILPS has also called a State-wide general strike on July 14 from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. They also warned that if not withdrawn by July 14, the general strike may be followed by indefinite curfew against non-local people.

Manipur has seen multiples strikes since Wednesday, when a Class XI student was killed during violent demonstrations. (ANI)
