Imphal (Manipur) [India]: Plagued by years-long insurgency, the culture of nightlife could not develop in Manipur’s capital city Imphal. However, with the opening of a weekend plaza, ‘Imphal Evenings’, the residents finally get a chance to enjoy the nightlife.
‘Imphal Evenings’ is the brainchild of Manipur’s Chief Minister N. Biren Singh.
It provides a recreational space to the people of the state, as it aims to improve healthy family life and introduce the culture of night life to the citizens.
Amidst much fanfare, Singh and MAHUD Minister Th. Shyamkumar launched the ‘night plaza’ in the state.
This initiative also aims to change the perception of the state of being termed as a ‘militant hit province’ and instead build a friendly environment that opens gateway to more tourists from across the country and abroad.
Manipur Chief Minister, while addressing to the crowd on the same, said, “This new initiative will send out a message of peaceful co-existence of the people to the rest of the world. And people will also get to know that even in Manipur; one can have a peaceful night life and the citizen’s civic sense can be great example to the others.”
This new venture creates platform for the local vendors, chefs, and artists to showcase their skills and talents and will also give an opportunity to earn livelihood to the unemployed youths of the state.
One of the resident from the area, with much appreciation, said, “This step has served good to the people of the state and it is great platform for the unemployed youths to come up with something innovative and earn money with their sales. And also, they can do something during the day time and earn even during the night at this night plaza.”
To make the new initiative a success, State Municipal Administration, Housing and Urban Development Department, and Manipur Urban Development Agency has been entrusted the task on managing the plaza.
Thus, this new plaza gives an opportunity to the people to spend some quality time with their families and friends together. (ANI)
