IM terrorist Shahzad sent to three-day police custody

New Delhi, February 03: A suspected Indian Mujahideen terrorist arrested in connection with the serial blasts here was on Wednesday sent to the custody of Delhi Police for three days.

Shahzad, who was arrested from Azamgarh on February 1 by Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terror Squad, was produced before Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Naveen Arora, who granted the Crime Branch plea for quizzing the suspect and sent him to police custody till February 6.

The Crime Branch is investigating the Batla House encounter of September 19, 2008, which took place a week after the serial blasts here which claimed 26 lives.

Police had claimed that Shahzad and Junaid, who were allegedly involved in the serial blasts, had escaped from Batla House during the encounter which took place after a police team arrived there acting on a tip-off.

The Crime Branch plea for a Test Identification Parade of Shahzad was refused by his lawyer.

Shahzad refused to undergo TIP on the ground that he has been photographed in Lucknow and his identity has been revealed to the media and public.
