Illegal mining issue: Cong demands CBI probe

Bangalore, December 05: Stepping up pressure on the ruling BJP in Karnataka, the Opposition Congress today met Governor H R Bhardwaj and demanded a CBI probe into the issue of alleged illegal mining in the state.

A Congress delegation led by KPCC president R V Deshpande and leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council V S Ugrappa, told the governor that there are “credible reports” that Reddy brothers and ministers Karunakara, Janardhana and Sreeramulu have “amassed tens of thousands of crores of rupees by starting mining activities across the state border and encroaching on mining areas of Bellary district clandestinely”.

The delegation said “in the background of their illegal mining activities on the border” they are requesting the Centre to initiate CBI probe into the affairs of Obalapuram Mining Company owned by the three ministers.
