Dalit activist Prof. Kancha Ilaiah on Sunday demanded that the State government install statues of Chakali Ilamma, Doddi Komuraiah and Shaik Bandagi on Tank Bund along with installation of new statutes.
Speaking to the media here, Prof. Ilaiah, while welcoming the installation of statue of Komuram Bheem on Tank Bund, said that Chakali Ilamma, Doddi Komuraiah, who had also fought against feudal system and Shaik Bandagi, who fought against Razakars, should be included in the list of statues to be installed on Tank Bund.
Ilaiah demanded that the government rechristen Kakateeya University as Sammakka University, Telangana University as Komuram Bheem University and Mahatma Gandhi University as Chakali Ilamma University. Alleging that Congress MPs K Keshav Rao and Madhu Yashki Goud have no awareness on the Telangana issue, he said they joined hands with upper caste leaders and carrying their flags. He made it clear that upper caste domination on Dailits in the name of JAC should be rejected.
Former minister C Krishna Yadav said that they would prevent the installation of statues on Tank Bund, if Chakali Ilamma, Doddi Komuraiah and Shaik Bandagi statues were not installed on Tank Bund.
Golla Kuruma Hakkula Porata Samithi (GKPS) State president G Srinivas Yadav said they would launch agitation from October 14 for installation of statues of Chakali Ilamma, Doddi Komuraiah and Shaik Bandagi on Tank Bund. (NSS)
