Ikebana, flower rangoli contest in city

Hyderabad, February 3: The Agri-Horticultural Society, in association with the OHORA School, Hyderabad Chapter, will be organising a competition and display on flower arrangement, Ikebana and Floral Rangoli show on its premises in Public Gardens, here on February 5 and 6.

Speaking to the media on Wednesday, the AHS secretary, Mr Vasanth Yadgirkar, said that the Ikebana floral arrangement, western type of flower arrangement, Floral Rangoli and the cut flower arrangement would form contents of the two-day show.

Referring to terms and conditions, Mr Yadgirkar said that there would be no entry fee for the participants and they should report at 8.30 am on February 5. Only one participant would be allowed for each arrangement. He also said that judges would decide the competition and the prizes (first, second and consolation) would be awarded in each category on February 6 at 5 pm.

The AHS chairman, Mr Ananth Reddy, said that the intention behind organising the event was to create awareness among the people and encourage them to nurture gardens and thereby contributing to enhancing the green cover. He also said that “functioning under the auspices of the Department of Horticulture and Agriculture”, the Agri-Horticulture Society was established in 1953 to promote horticultural activities in the State. It is a non-profitable organisation which supplies floral plants to farmers and domestic maids to encourage them to take up gardening.

The president, City chapter, OHARA School of Ikebana, Ms Usha Bhagya and its vice-president, Ms Vineeta Sunil Kumar, also spoke.
