IIT student in decomposed state found in hotel room

Mumbai: A 22-year-old IITians decomposed body was found under mysterious conditions inside a hotel room in Jogeshwari on Monday said Amboli police.

The deceased was identified as Jaideep Swain was an IIT Powai’s first-year student pursuing Masters in Technology, HT reported.

Swain’s father works as a porter in Food Corporation of India. Swain had only joined the institute in July this year.

According to the police, Swain had checked in to the hotel in Jogeshwari on August 31 and the hotel staff said his last contact with the hotel staff was on September 1.

“On September 3, when a staff member was on the seventh floor of the hotel, he could smell an unusual odour from Swain’s room. He then informed his superiors and the police were called,” said a police officer after the Amboli police station received the call at 11.30am.

The Police personnel had to break into Swain’s hotel room to find his body in a decomposed state with anti-depressant tablets next to him.

The body is sent for medical examination while no suicide note was found in the room stated the Police.

“Till now, we have not found any foul play in the death. We are investigating the case further and also trying to find out why the boy had come to the hotel,” said the police officer.
